About Ekiden and Us

What is an EKIDEN ?

Originating in Japan, the Ekiden is a marathon (42.195 km) relay race for 6 runners. Distances are set and run by 6 different runners in the following order: 5 km, 10 km, 5 km, 10 km, 5 km, 7.195 km.

Who are we ?

Ekiden 36 is organized by the Association des Foulées de Châteauroux. Founded in 1993 by Alain Pascaud, the association brought together the ASPTT Châteauroux, the City of Châteauroux and La Nouvelle République to organize the 10 and 20 km de Châteauroux.

In 2008, the race became the Ekiden. More user-friendly, the format appealed to beginners and more seasoned runners alike. Today, the Ekiden 36 is one of the biggest in France in terms of participation (record 395 teams). Its INDOOR start/finish area is much appreciated by runners.

Since 2018, the Association des Foulées de Châteauroux has been independent, with an Organizing Committee of 17 volunteers working to bring this race to life each year.

And it’s worth pointing out that on the day of the event, some 120 additional loyal volunteers ensure the comfort, safety and conviviality of this event. Thank you, you are indispensable.

REPUBLICAN COMMITMENT

The association has signed the Republican Commitment Contract (PDF).
